The media coverage and awards we have received in 2021

As the Innovation Accelerator continues its growth trajectory, we were recognised by Fast Company as one of the 100 Best Workplaces for Innovators and one of the ten Most Innovative Not-For-Profit Organizations of 2021.

Together with WFP Technology, we produced the award-winning Great Enablers website, telling the story of how the people and partnerships behind innovation and technology at WFP paved the way to the Nobel Peace Prize en route to the ultimate goal of eliminating hunger by 2030.

One Accelerator-supported project, Takachar, was awarded Prince William’s Earthshot Prize for its innovative solution that turns crop waste into bioproducts while reducing air pollution.

Our wider WFP family was also in the spotlight. WFP’s Supply Chain team received the prestigious Franz Edelman Award for advanced analytics, and for its use of data to save lives. Our own scale-up enablement project Optimus was an example of this success. The United Nations Humanitarian Booking Hub, an online platform powered by WFP, received the Best Transport Achievement Award from the Fleet Forum.

The Accelerator’s progression was also reflected in our expanding suite of communications materials.

Recognition for our communications, community and advocacy work in 2021:

We received four Anthem Awards in 2021. Established by The Webby Awards, the Anthem Awards “honors the purpose and mission-driven work of people, companies, and organizations worldwide.” Competing under the Humanitarian Action & Services Cause, the UN World Food Programme and its WFP Innovation Accelerator was recognised in four different categories:

  1. Gold Medal for Community Engagement Categories — Community Space for our work with WFP Innovation Bootcamps

  2. Gold Medal for The Great Enablers website

  3. Silver Medal for Best Brand Campaign #SheInnovates Campaign

  4. Silver Medal for Community Engagement Categories — Most Impactful Corporate Initiative for our work with WFP’s internal ‘Innovation Champions’ community
