Many smallholder farmers in Nepal face not only climate-related challenges but also additional legal obstacles when it comes to fragmented supply chains and limited digital literacy. On top of that, the process of getting a loan is a complex and bureaucratic one. As a result, many of them depend on informal lenders, struggle to invest in quality seeds, fertilizers and equipment, and cannot reliably access fair markets.
Project overview
DV Excellus developed a digital platform, Kheti.farm, that connects most insecure smallholder farmers in Nepal with financial institutions, input suppliers, agricultural experts and buyers. Kheti.farm creates a safe, uncomplicated online space for farmers to get climate-smart advisory services as well as digital loans.
DV Excellus’ Kheti.farm platform provides these smallholder farmers with a one-stop digital agriculture platform that connects them with financial institutions, input suppliers as well as agricultural experts and buyers. Farmers are provided with both, the means to get high-quality inputs, through digital loans such as Kheti Karja, but also an integrated marketplace to sell their harvest on. They can also access climate smart advisory services, all in a single system.
