Project overview

SIaaS by NoorNation is an innovative model that replaces traditional flood irrigation with modern, smart irrigation systems powered by the solar-driven ‘LifeBox'.

Challenge

70% of irrigation water in Egypt is wasted due to inefficient flood irrigation practices. Farmers spend up to 60% of their pre-harvest energy costs on diesel fuel for water pumping, reducing productivity and profitability by at least 30%. This unsustainable practice escalates costs, reduces crop yields, and contributes significantly to CO₂ emissions, negatively impacting both environmental and agricultural sustainability.

Solution

SIaaS by NoorNation is an innovative model that replaces traditional flood irrigation with modern, smart irrigation systems powered by the solar-driven ‘LifeBox'. This solution allows farmers to pay per use based on the time water is pumped. By eliminating the need for large upfront investments, SIaaS provides a financially accessible and sustainable irrigation solution tailored to farmers' actual usage patterns.

Sprint Goal

Solar Irrigation as a Service (SIaaS) by NoorNation has strengthened small-scale farming by making solar-powered irrigation financially accessible to underserved farmers. Through targeted pilot programmes, the initiative validated the effectiveness and practicality of the SIaaS model. This innovation led to a 90% reduction in diesel pump usage, resulting in at least a 25% increase in agricultural productivity and a corresponding 10% boost in farmer profitability. Additionally, SIaaS automated both payment and irrigation activation processes, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and user convenience.
