School Connect addresses the need for reliable, up-to-date data to optimize school feeding programs. With governments investing US$48 billion globally in school meals, stakeholders require accurate insights to monitor progress, ensure accountability and demonstrate return on investment in human capital, social safety nets and local economies. By streamlining data collection and reporting, School Connect helps stakeholders track performance, improve decision-making, and maximize the impact of school feeding programmes over time
Project overview
School Connect is a digital solution developed by WFP to support school feeding operations by enabling real-time monitoring of key indicators. The tool allows school-level users to manage food deliveries, track attendance and record meal consumption with visualized data synced to a centralized dashboard. By generating monthly reports and integrating with other WFP systems, School Connect streamlines data collection and reduces reporting time, showcasing WFP’s capacity to digitalize school meal programmes for governments.
School Connect is a digital tool designed to simplify and improve the monitoring of school feeding programs. It allows school-level users to record food deliveries, stock issues, attendance and meal consumption in real time. This data is synced to a centralized platform, where it is visualized on a dashboard and used to generate monthly reports. By providing up-to-date and accurate information, School Connect helps governments and organizations optimize programmes, ensure accountability and demonstrate impact. Unlike other solutions, it integrates seamlessly with WFP systems, reducing data entry time and offering a scalable, user-friendly platform for improving school meal programme efficiency worldwide.
Since 2020, data in School Connect has covered 9,800 schools in 20 countries.
On average, two school directors are trained to use School Connect in each school. WFP country office staff and cooperating partners are also trained.
In the next two years, the School Connect team aims to reach government players and key stakeholders in the School Meals Coalition’s Data and Monitoring Initiative.
Besides increasing the number of users in the platform, the team also seeks to reach government partners in its rollout countries and potentially double its user base within the next two years.
