Challenge

Most smallholder farmers struggle with degraded soils, low crop yields, and expensive chemical fertilizers. At the same time, large amounts of organic waste go unused or are improperly disposed of, contributing to pollution instead of being turned into something valuable.

Innovation overview

Zhany converts organic waste into vermicompost and Vermitea, a type of compost based on worms. This is done using a continuous flow-through technology with integrated sensors to optimize production efficiency and ensure consistent quality. This process transforms waste into a highly nutrient-rich compost that improves soil structure, aeration, and water retention. This benefits people by increasing crop yields, reducing the need for chemical fertilizers, helping plants tolerate saline soils and supporting farmers in adopting sustainable practices.

Results

Zhany successfully engaged 50 farmers and reached 300 indirect beneficiaries through its innovation.
