Project overview

MAYANI is an agritech platform based in the Philippines, helping the most insecure fragmented smallholder farmers and fisherfolk coordinate and join climate-resilient producer networks linked to markets. By integrating parametric insurance with market offtake, the company shields smallholder farmers from climate shocks while building long-term resilience.

The Challenge

Smallholder farmers and the buyers that depend on their produce face a dual crisis: volatile prices and limited market access. On top of that, they have to deal with recurring extreme weather events that disrupt yields and deliveries. Traditional supply chains are inefficient and fragmented, while isolated agri-value chain interventions do not protect smallholder cash flows, nor keep food supply moving.

The Solution

MAYANI created an agritech platform based in the Philippines that helps smallholder farmers and fisherfolk bridge the issue of fragmented supply chains by transforming them into coordinated climate-resilient producer networks with links to markets. They do this through a whole-of-value-chain commercial and impact model; from straightforward contracts with offtakers, to climate-smart inputs. The platform provides its beneficiaries with access to formal credit and parametric insurance, all of which are meant to improve rural incomes and galvanise agri-smallholders as strong advocates of inclusive development.
